CLIMATE REALITY CHECK

The status quo isn't working.

As Californians suffer the devasting climate effects of fossil fuel pollution, our elected officials continue to delay meaningful action to regulate the corporate polluters impeding our state's transition to clean energy. These same politicians frequently cite California's ambitious climate targets; but those targets are meaningless without concrete, enforceable policies to make them a reality.California needs to reduce climate pollution at three times the current rate in order to meet its legally-mandated 2030 target for combating climate change — and a new analysis says it’s not even close. Source: CalMattersCalifornia's once-celebrated cap-and-trade program is failing to reduce pollution as promised; and investor-owned utilities continue to drive up electricity prices. It's clear that incremental tweaks to the status quo are not working. We need systems-level change that prioritizes the long-term wellbeing of Californians over the short-term profits of Wall Street.

CLIMATE ACTION IS POPULAR

We have the numbers
— and power to lead.

A solid majority (67%) of California voters support our state's climate goals and want our state to move faster to phase out fossil fuels. As California voters, we don't have to wait on politicians; through direct democracy, we have the power to advance real transformative climate solutions. It's up to us to act at the speed and scale of the climate crisis; and do what is necessary to protect our communities, our families, and our shared future.

GRASSROOTS BALLOT MEASURES

Democracy for the people,
— by the people.

Democracy for the people,
by the people.

Most Californians care about climate, but don't know how to make an impact. Our grassroots model empowers everyday voters, bringing them off the sidelines and giving them the ability to directly participate in shaping our democracy. Our innovative, distributed signature-gathering process makes it easy for any California voter to participate in our direct democracy campaigns by collecting a few signatures from friends and family.Unlike conventional top-down ballot measure campaigns that launch and dismantle each campaign cycle, we're building a durable base of climate voters that grows stronger every year.

POLICY PRIORITIES

A just and rapid transition to a clean-energy future for us — and the world.

We know what needs to be done: we need to end fossil fuel extraction and rapidly replace fossil fuels use with clean energy alternatives.Luckily, the technology needed to replace fossil fuels is widely available and affordable. What we need now are new legal frameworks, innovative investment mechanisms, and responsive democratic institutions to accelerate this transition. There is no silver bullet policy to immediately solve the climate crisis. We need an economy-wide paradigm shift that includes:✔ Affordable, clean electricity
✔ High-quality public transportation and smart urban planning
✔ Public ownership of energy infrastructure
✔ Green banking and public financing
✔ Regulation of polluters
✔ Divestment from fossil fuels & investment in clean energy
✔ Financial support for impacted communities and workers
✔ Rooftop solar, microgrids, and demand-side management
✔ Universal financing for residential electrification and fire hardening
✔ Constitutional environmental rights
